Bio

Chris Weagel is a video artist, producer, editor and teacher working in Metro Detroit.

 

Weagel began producing and publishing regular video series online in 2001. His satirical and documentary videos exploring the lives and culture of working class Americans are published online by Human Dog Productions (humandog.tv). His work has been recognized by Wired Magazine and BusinessWeek.com and featured in the book The Secrets of Videoblogging.

 

Since 2008, Weagel has been a Production Coordinator at Community Media Network Public Access TV in Troy, MI (cmntv.org). He teaches production classes, manages the station’s online presence and handles post-production and graphic design for in-house productions. In 2011, he produced a series of live Town Hall political programs on statewide and local political topics with The Oakland Press newspaper, merging live studio audiences, phone calls and online commentary for increased public participation.

 

Weagel is a teaching artist with the Southwest Detroit-based non-profit, Living Arts Detroit, leading video and animation classes for middle-school students at the Detroit Public Schools’ Academy of the Americas.

 

He is also a board member of DAFT (Digital Arts, Film & Television) a non-profit organization dedicated to media arts education. Chris has taught DAFT Video and Animation workshops throughout Michigan, produces the showreel for DAFT’s annual Michigan Student Film & Video Festival, and runs the DAFT website (daftonline.org).
